A 22-year-old accused of killing her two young daughters has appeared in court.

Louise Porton has been charged with murdering 16-month old Scarlett Vaughan and three-year-old Lexi Draper.

Lexi was found dead on 15 January last year following reports she was unconcious.

Her sister Scarlett died just two and a half weeks later on 1 February after reportedly falling ill at home.

Ms Porton, from Skiddaw in Rugby, appeared at Leamington Spa Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

In court, the 22-year-old spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address. Her hearing lasted for just two minutes.

She was remanded in custody and will appear on Tuesday at Warwick Crown Court, via a video link.

“As you have heard we cannot deal with the matter today,” said Carol Thorne, chair of the bench.

“It will need to be sent to Warwick Crown Court.”
