Clapham shooting: Man opens fire with pump-action shotgun on busy London street
‘We cannot allow such deadly crimes on our streets and our communities need to work with us to stop them’
Police have released footage of the moment a gunman opened fire on a busy London street.
In the video, a car pulls up outside a pub in Clapham, southwest London, before a man jumps out holding a pump-action shotgun.
He runs past a bus and in front of an oncoming van as he chases after a man is on the other side of the road.
Pedestrians can be seen walking by as the gunman shoots the victim in the leg before running back to the car, which then drives off.
Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a shooting at the junction of Bedford Road and Fenwick Place at about 9.31pm on Tuesday, 4 June.
They were later alerted to a 24-year-old man who had turned up at a south London hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
The victim’s injuries were not found to be life-threatening and he has was discharged from hospital.
Detectives have linked the shooting to the injured person.
A police spokesperson said a light-coloured Lexus RX 300 on with false registration plates pulled up outside the Falcon Public House.
The car has not been recovered, however a shell casing was found at the scene.
There have been no arrests.
DC Melanie Burridge, of Metropolitan Police, said: “This appears to be a deliberate attempt on a man’s life with a deadly weapon.
“It was committed on a busy street and placed the public in immediate danger.
“I am asking anyone with information to contact us immediately.
“We cannot allow such deadly crimes on our streets and our communities need to work with us to stop them. “
