Lecturer to be sentenced for child sex offences
A shamed university lecturer will be sentenced today for having sex with an under-age girl as well as making and possessing indecent images of children.
Biomedicine lecturer Trevor Jackson, 46, of Lyndhurst Avenue, Jesmond, Newcastle, admitted five counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and five counts of sexual activity with a child.
The plea was made at Newcastle Crown Court last year on the basis that full sexual intercourse only took place twice, after the girl turned 14.
The court heard Jackson befriended the girl when she was 13 and made several trips for hotel meetings with the child.
Jackson also pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent photographs of a child and three charges of the possession of indecent photographs of a child.
He resigned his post at Newcastle University last October.
He will be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court.
