A journalist arrested during an investigation into phone hacking has been released on bail.

The 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods after attending an east London police station by appointment at 11am yesterday.

The man was held in relation to a suspected conspiracy involving the gathering of data from stolen mobile phones, the Metropolitan Police said.

He is the ninth person to be arrested under Operation Tuleta, which focuses on breaches of privacy alongside the phone-hacking scandal.

A Scotland Yard spokesman added: "The arrest is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately."

The man was bailed until a date in September pending further inquiries.
