Former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie will face trial after pleading not guilty to sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub in Edinburgh.

The 52-year-old former television presenter, whose real name is John Stott, is accused of putting his hand up a 26-year-old woman’s skirt and touching her bare buttocks.

The alleged incident took place at the Atik Nightclub in Edinburgh on 25 June last year.

It is said to have occurred while Leslie was attending a VIP function at the nightclub, while the woman was part of a hen party.

The plea was entered during a short hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Leslie was not present and entered his not guilty plea via his lawyer.

The trial date has been set for 18 June.
