John Gogarty death: Man arrested on suspicion of murder

A man has been arrested over the murder of a 65-year-old man in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

The unnamed 48-year-old was arrested on Tuesday morning after John Gogarty was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his home on Friday afternoon.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman told the Sheffield Star: “Police investigating the death of John Gogarty have today arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

“A 48–year-old Barnsley man was arrested this morning and remains in custody where he is being questioned by police.

“Officers were called to a house in Marsh Street, Wombwell, at around 4pm on Friday, where they found the body of 65-year-old Mr Gogarty.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

A post mortem confirmed Mr Gogarty had been stabbed multiple times, according to the BBC.
