A 13-year-old boy charged with a series of burglaries has been ordered to give up his Xbox after a High Court judge decided to show the teenager what it meant to have something he valued taken away.
The suspect, whose age means he cannot be identified, was asked by Mr Justice McLaughlin to name something he owned that meant a lot to him. When the teenager identified his games console, Mr McLaughlin ordered it be relinquished to the authorities as part of his bail conditions.
The youth, from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, faces five counts of burglary and one of attempted burglary.
Appearing for his bail application on Wednesday via a video-link between Belfast High Court and a young offenders' institute, the accused was also banned from having any contact with his co-accused.
Mr McLaughlin said: "He is to hand over his Xbox to police within two days of his release. That will be returned when these charges are disposed of."
