A man has somehow managed to survive being shot with a shotgun, after his iPhone took most of the damage.
The 25-year-old victim, who was returning home from walking his dog, managed to get up and make his way home after sustaining serious injuries to his abdomen. He was later taken to Aintree Hospital in a serious condition.
The incident occurred after the victim confronted Ryan Duggan and others over the water supply to his block of flats, which had been turned off. This turned into an altercation and the victim chased Mr Duggan down a footpath.
During the course of the chase, which took place in October 2014, Mr Duggan turned on the victim and fired the shotgun – the weapon was later found by a ballistic expert wrapped in Clingfilm with the spent cartridge still inside.
Ryan Duggan, 19, was found guilty of attempted murder after three day trial at Chester Crown Court and was also found guilty of four other related offences.
Detective inspector Gary McIntyre, said: “Duggan’s actions that night were extreme and shocking – the victim went outside to speak to the group about the fact they had turned off the water supply resulting in the defendant shooting him with a powerful weapon.
“Fortunately, the victim’s mobile phone took the brunt of the shot and, as a result of this, he survived.
“This is remarkable – had that phone not been in his pocket at that time he would undoubtedly have died."
