Detectives have launched a murder inquiry after a man was found dead in his flat today.

The victim, in his 50s, had suffered head injuries when friends found him in the property in Gloucester Street, Brighton, at around 2.10am.

No arrests have been made and details of the man's identity have not been disclosed by officers from Sussex Police's major crime branch.

Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles, leading Operation Felsham, said: "We are treating his death as murder but the inquiry is in its very early stages and we are not in a position to release any more information at this time.

"However, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in or around Gloucester Street in the north Laine area of the city centre in the early hours of this morning and who saw anything suspicious."

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070 999, quoting Operation Felsham, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
