Inquest into Moat death starts today
An inquest into the death of Raoul Moat will be opened today. The hearing, in Newcastle, is expected to be adjourned until a full inquest can be held at a later date.
Moat, 37, a steroid-addicted former nightclub doorman, was released from prison on 1 July after being jailed for assault.
A day later he shot his former girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, 22, and killed her partner Chris Brown, 29, at a house in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, before shooting PC David Rathband, 42, in the face. Moat died early on Saturday from a gunshot wound after a police stakeout. PC Rathband has said he bears Moat "no malice" and wanted to move on with his life.
