Two men were seen trying to lure girls into their car close to where a three-year-old girl was snatched from her home and raped on Monday, police said.

They appealed for information about the men in a dark-blue Ford Escort in the Llanrumney area of Cardiff. The girl was abducted in Rumney, part of Llanrumney, between 7pm and 11pm. She was found when the car she was in crashed 80 miles away on the A4 between Marlborough, Wiltshire, and Hungerford, Berkshire, while police followed, early on Tuesday.

Detective Superintendent Paul Kemp, leading the investigation, said: "We have reason to believe the two men may have attempted to entice young girls into their car at some stage during Monday." Three men, aged 26, 34 and 47, are being questioned on suspicion of rape and kidnap. Police said they were not looking for anyone else.

A relative said the girl does not want to return home yet. Her mother added: "She's been through hell. All she's asking for is her dummy and her five-year-old brother. I'm so relieved to get her back.

"My sweet little girl is always so chatty and loves playing with Barbie dolls. But she's hardly spoken a word since this happened. She gave her dad a smile for the first time this morning. But she's just completely overwhelmed and in shock."
