Homeless man repeatedly kicked in 'senseless attack' on London street
Attacker was queueing outside sandwich shop when he launched into 'sustained' assault on 'vulnerable' victim, say police
Police have released footage of a homeless man being repeatedly kicked in a "violent and senseless attack" in a central London street.
The attacker, who appears to be male, was queueing outside a sandwich shop in Fleet Street when he targeted the victim, who was sitting on the ground nearby.
CCTV footage shows him kicking the homeless man twice, knocking him onto his back, before apparently saying something to him and kicking him again.
City of London Police said the attack took place outside Dilieto Sandwich Bar at 12.20pm on 28 March. The force released the footage on Tuesday in a bid to identify the attacker.
“This was a violent and senseless attack on a vulnerable person," said constable Sam Lowe.
He added: “The attacker was queueing up outside the sandwich shop along with many other people.
“We would urge anyone with information about the person who committed this vicious attack, or anyone who witnessed the incident, to contact us.”
Police asked any witness to contact officers on 020 7601 2222, quoting the crime reference 19000158508. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
