A former binman has admitted responsibility for killing twin sisters and an elderly couple.

Lawyers for Mark Hobson, 34, made the admission yesterday as he appeared for a hearing at Teesside Crown Court.

Hobson, of New Lane, Selby, is charged with killing his girlfriend Claire Sanderson and her sister Diane, and two pensioners, James and Joan Britton. Hobson has yet to enter formal pleas.

Hobson, who was dressed in a dark suit, kept his head bowed during the 20 minute hearing. Two security officers were present with him in the glass-fronted dock.

Relatives of the four victims sat in the jury box while Jeremy Richardson QC, for the defence, told the court: "The defendant admits responsibility for the killings of all four individuals who were victims of the murders."
