Hereford mystery man 'Roger Curry' identified as suspect briefly held on suspicion of kidnap
Five months after 75-year-old man suffering from amnesia was found in city, police believe they know who he is
Police believe they have identified an elderly man with a North American accent who lost his memory and was found wandering around Hereford five months ago.
The force arrested a man from Taunton, Somerset, on Thursday on suspicion of kidnapping but he was later released on bail until 23 June.
The lost man, who has been referred to as Roger Curry, initially perplexed local authorities after he was picked up by an ambulance crew last year. He had no memory of who he was, where he lived or any people he knew.
Formal identification processes are still being completed, but police now believe he is a 75-year-old man from the United States.
Since he was found, he has been living in a council-run care home in Hereford, where he was “happy and content” according to police.
Sergeant Sarah Bennett, who has been leading the enquiries, said: "We would like to thank the public and the media for the significant amount of support they have shown by sharing our appeals to identify him far and wide."
Numerous theories regarding the unusual case of Roger Curry had surfaced, but the true circumstances of how he came to end up in Hereford remain unknown.
