A 79-year-old woman was left with a broken arm after she was dragged along the pavement by a thief snatching a bag from her hand in broad daylight.

Officers have released footage of the theft in Kettering, Northants on Sunday afternoon.

The pensioner was thrown to the floor in the exchange at around as she clutched onto her possessions.

But despite her best efforts, the thief was able to wrench the bag from her hand before taking off down the road.

The septuagenarian later received medical attention after suffering a broken arm in the attack.

Two men, both 31, were been arrested in connection with the offence and have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Paul Bates of Kettering CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “Many people will be shocked by the CCTV footage we have released today and rightly so.

“This lady, like everyone else, should be able to go about her business and feel safe. Her attacker has taken that feeling of safety away from her and it is imperative that he is identified and brought to justice. Two 31-year-old men have been arrested in connection with this offence and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
