An investigation was under way today after a hacker launched a crude attack on a police website, apparently in revenge for terror deaths in Pakistan.

Access to the Durham Police website was temporarily blocked by staff after its security was breached by a man calling himself "L33T HACKER Ali.Mani".

He wrote on the force's official website: "U HAVE BEEN 0WNED BY L33T H4CKER Ali.Mani

"UR SECURITY SUCKS UK POLICE THIS IS MY REVENGE AGAINST U

"U ARE THE ONE WHO ARE BLASTING BOMB IN PAKISTAN

"N0W STOP THIS ALL BATTLE ELSE I WILL F*** UR SITE + SERVER

"UR SECURITY IS ZERO%"

A Durham Police spokesman said: "We are aware of a problem with the force website and the offending matter is being removed.

"An investigation into how this occurred is under way."

Pakistan has been hit by a wave of suicide bombers which have killed more than 350 people since the beginning of October, as the Government carries out an offensive against insurgents.
