A grandmother suffered horrific facial injuries when she was knocked to the ground in an alleged mugging in Leeds.

Pensioner Sabina Harrison, 78, was left with severe bruising after a gang of teenagers snatched her handbag from her shoulder while she was walking along Milan Road, in Harehills, causing her to fall down and hit her head.

The four youths fled the scene, leaving Ms Harrison lying on the ground. She required hospital treatment following the attack, which took place at around 5.20pm on 28 February.

Police have released graphic images of Ms Harrison’s injuries as part of a renewed appeal for information.

Pc Philip Dodsworth, of Leeds CID, said: “The photo of the victim is particularly graphic and shows the nasty facial injuries she received in this incident.

”We hope the impact of this image will encourage anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. We are particularly keen to speak to one potential witness - the driver of a gold or silver Mark IV Volkswagen Golf which was seen on CCTV in Ashton Road approaching the junction with Milan Road just before the incident.

“The victim, who was wearing a bright red coat, crosses the junction in front of that car shortly before being robbed and the person in the vehicle may have seen who else was around at the time.

”I would urge anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation to contact me.“

Four youths, aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, from Manchester, have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further inquiries, West Yorkshire Police said.
