Gary Glitter released on bail after indecent assault charges

Gary Glitter has been released on bail until next month when he is expected to return to court accused of carrying out sex attacks on two young girls.

Glitter has been charged with six counts of indecent assault, one of unlawful sex with a girl under 13 and one count of administering drugs "in order to facilitate sexual intercourse" earlier this month. The offences allegedly took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Speaking only to confirm his name, age and address, Glitter, who real name is whose real name is Paul Gadd, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court earlier this morning. He has been released on bail and will appear at Southwark Crown Court on 3 July.

The former pop star became the first person to be arrested as part of Operation Yewtree- a national investigation into historic allegations of sex offences was launched in the wake of the abuse claims against Jimmy Savile- and saw him held in his Marylebone home in October 2012.
