The father of England footballers Gary and Phil Neville has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

Neville Neville, 63, a former cricketer and sports agent who also runs a property development business in Greater Manchester was questioned by detectives investigating a reported incident in the North Manor area of Bury on Saturday. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A 63-year-old man from Bury was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and has been bailed till May pending further enquiries.”

Mr Neville is a well-known figure in the sport. He helped negotiate both contracts for both his sons and his name forms the basis of one of football’s best known chants “Neville Neville” which is sung to the tune of David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel.

Last week it was announced that Everton captain Phil Neville was to join the coaching staff of the England Under-21 team for this summer’s European Championship in Israel. His former Manchester United star brother Gary is a coach for the senior team and a pundit for Sky Sports.
