Gang warfare killers jailed for up to 35 years
Four gang members were told today they must serve minimum prison terms of up to 35 years after they were found guilty of murdering a 17-year-old youth who was gunned down outside a barber shop.
A jury has heard how Tarek Chaiboub was the victim of a "cold blooded execution" during a feud between factions of the S3 gang in Sheffield.
Tarek was carrying a handgun when he was shot dead in the Burngreave area of the city in July last year after leaving a barber's in broad daylight.
Today two of the gang laughed and joked with each other as the sentences were handed down by Mr Justice Griffith Williams at Sheffield Crown Court.
Nigel Ramsey and Michael Chattoo smiled and exchanged remarks as the judge told Ramsey he must serve a minimum of 35 years of his life sentence.
Chattoo, who at first refused to stand to be sentenced, was told he must serve a minimum of 30 years.
Two other gang members - Denzil Ramsey and Levan Menzies - were given minimum sentences of 25 and 20 years respectively.
A jury of six men and six women found the four men guilty of murder after a week of deliberations.
Chattoo, 21, of Daniel Hill Street, Sheffield, Nigel Ramsey, 23, and his brother Denzil Ramsey, 20, both of Andover Street, Sheffield, and Menzies, 17, also of Andover Street, all denied the allegation.
They showed no emotion when the woman foreman of the jury returned the guilty verdicts but Nigel Ramsey and Chattoo laughed in an act of clear defiance as the judge returned to sentence them.
As the group left the dock they started chanting and shouting.
Outside the court, two women were later arrested amid scuffles with police and bystanders.
