A four-year-old girl found dead next to her seriously-injured mother had suffered multiple stab wounds, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

The body of Chloe Burke was found in a bedroom at her home in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Her mother Dawn Makin, 33, is in a critical condition in hospital after a suspected suicide bid. Police said she is being treated for "various injuries".

Officers were called to the house in Lea Mount Drive, Bury, on Thursday night after being alerted by an ambulance crew.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Rawlinson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are continuing to look into the circumstances leading up to and surrounding this incident but I want to stress we are not looking for anyone else in connection with what has happened.

"This is a very tragic case that has resulted in a young girl losing her life and our thoughts remain with Chloe's family, who are understandably very upset by what has happened."

Chloe's father Michael Burke, 38, who is understood to be separated from Ms Makin, said his life has "fallen apart" since the little girl's death.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "She was just your typical four-year-old girl. She had lots of curly hair and she loved Peppa Pig.

"She was a little bubbly thing. What more can you ask for? My world has fallen apart."
