Four people were under arrest on suspicion of murder last night after a dying man was discovered in the back of a van in Berkshire.

The man, who has not been named, was found by police yesterday afternoon on the A30 London Road in Sunningdale. He was alive with serious injuries when police arrived, but later died.

Witnesses said that three men were arrested as officers surrounded the white van. Another was said to have fled the scene but was later apprehended.

Some reports suggested that there had been a kidnap or armed robbery. One police officer at the scene is reported to have said that the victim appeared to have been tortured. Witnesses said a sledgehammer was recovered from the van.

Last night, the A30 remained cordoned off and police were refusing to comment on the details.
