A man has been charged with murdering his mother in north London.

Beatrice Yankson, 59, died in a fire at her flat on the Andover Estate in Mingard Walk, Finsbury Park.

Joel Ellis 35, also of Mingard Walk, was charged with her murder on Tuesday.

He was also charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

Ellis is due to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the fire at the two-storey maisonette at about 12.40pm on 26 October.

A woman pronounced dead at the scene was identified as the occupier of the flat, Beatrice Yankson.

A post-mortem examination which took place found the cause of death to be burns and inhalation of fire or fumes.
