Female member of staff stabbed to death Gloucester at mental health hospital
A man in his sixties has been arrested on suspicion of murder
A member of staff at a mental health hospital in Gloucester has been stabbed to death, officials have said.
The woman, who has not been named, was working at an inpatient unit at Wotton Lawn Hospital, when she was attacked on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman for the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust said medical staff at the facility tried to help her and she was then taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm that our colleague died a short time later. Our thoughts remain with their family and friends at this extremely difficult time,” the spokesman said.
“The full facts of this sad incident are still being established and therefore it is inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
The spokesman was unable to confirm the role of the staff member.
According to 2together’s website, Wotton Lawn is an 88-bed acute mental health hospital.
It has four admission wards, a nurse-led Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a Low Secure Unit (LSU).
Staff who work there include doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and art therapies.
Gloucestershire Police said: "Emergency services were called at around 7.30am on Wednesday July 9 to Wotton Lawn Hospital in Gloucester following reports that a woman had been stabbed.
"The victim was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but sadly died of her injuries at around 8.30am.
"A man in his sixties was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody."
