Family plea to 'honour' killer: Where is body?

The sister of "honour killing" victim Tulay Goren today called on her father to end the family's nightmares by revealing what he had done with her body.

Mehmet Goren faces a life sentence after he was convicted of murdering his 15-year-old daughter more than 10 years ago.

The schoolgirl was killed because she fell in love with the wrong man but her body has never been found.

Her older sister, Nuray Guler, 28, who has since lost another sister, Hatice, in a car crash, said after the verdict: "For my father, I have only one request. I ask that he finally discloses the whereabouts of my sister.

"I wake up at night wondering where Tulay may be. In quiet moments during the day I ask myself if she suffered or knew what was in store for her.

"I ask that he put an end to the nightmares that haunt us and allow us to retrieve Tulay in order that she may rest in peace alongside her sister Hatice."

Mrs Guler's call echoed that of her mother, Hanim Goren, who demanded during the trial that her husband reveal what he had done with Tulay.

"Look at my face. What did you do to Tulay? Say it so that I can..." she said before being interrupted by the judge.

Mrs Goren was too upset to return for today's verdict.

When Mrs Guler gave evidence, she also unleashed an emotional outburst against Goren, telling him: "Even animals would not do what you have done. You have darkened our world and ruined our lives."

Goren, 49, was a psychotic bully who subjected his family to years of misery, once trying to gas them all to death and on another occasion to inject his wife Hanim with rat poison.

Tulay disappeared in January 1999 after he discovered her doomed "Romeo and Juliet" romance with a man from a different branch of Islam. She told a friend she may have been pregnant.

Goren, a part-time fish and chip shop worker, told his eight-year-old son Tuncay to kiss Tulay goodbye as he would never see his sister again.

It was the courage of Tulay's mother in speaking up against her husband that helped bring him to justice more than 10 years later.

Goren, of Navestock Crescent, Woodford Green, showed no emotion as he was convicted of murdering his daughter today by the unanimous verdict of an Old Bailey jury. He is being sentenced later today.

His brothers Ali Goren, 56, of Brettenham Road, Walthamstow, and Cuma Goren, 43, of Evesham Avenue, Walthamstow, were both cleared of the charge.

All three were cleared of a conspiracy to murder Tulay's boyfriend, Halil Unal.
