A man stabbed to death outside his home was a former policeman awaiting trial for possessing more than 2,000 child porn images, it was revealed today.

Geoffrey Harries, 51, was knifed in the street outside his home in the village of Trimsaran, West Wales, in the early hours of Saturday morning and died later of his injuries.

Dyfed Powys Police are continuing to question a 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident and house-to-house inquiries are ongoing.

Mr Harries was named officially by police yesterday as the victim of the fatal knife attack.

But it has since emerged that he was a former Dyfed Powys Police officer who resigned from the force on 26 March prior to his appearance in court.

He appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on 13 May charged with 15 offences of making indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images.

He was alleged to have had 2,082 images on his computer during the period he worked for the force.

Following his appearance in court he was released on bail pending a trial at Cardiff Crown Court on 16 June.
