Explorer Fiennes to face driving charge

The explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes has been charged with careless driving over a car crash in which another motorist was seriously injured.
Sir Ranulph, 66, the oldest Briton to climb Mount Everest, was left dazed and bloodied when his Jaguar collided with a Nissan Micra and a Ford Focus in Stockport on 6 March. The Micra driver suffered collapsed lungs, broken ribs and a broken leg. A five-year-old child was slightly hurt.
Sir Ranulph had competed in the 42-mile High Peak Marathon in Derbyshire the evening before the crash. Teams test their fitness, endurance and navigational skills through the night across mostly boggy terrain.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the polar explorer was due to appear before Stockport magistrates later this year.
