Ex-broadcaster denies child porn charge

Former DJ and Radio 2 broadcaster Paul Hollingdale pleaded not guilty to a child pornography charge during a court appearance today.

Hollingdale, 75, of Western Road, Hailsham, East Sussex, denied one count of possessing an indecent photograph of a child on July 27 last year, during a brief hearing at Hove Crown Court.

It is alleged that the level one image, which is the lowest level of severity, was found on a computer.

Hollingdale, who stood in the dock wearing a red and grey striped long-sleeved jumper, spoke only to confirm his real surname of Wynn and enter his not-guilty plea.

The former broadcaster was the first voice on BBC Radio 2 in 1967 and went on to work for a string of local radio stations.

Judge Anthony Niblett ordered the case to be entered into a warned list for trial at the same court on August 3 and Hollingdale was granted continuing bail.
