Eight held in terror raids
Police were today questioning eight suspected terrorists following a series of early morning raids.
The eight men, said to be of Middle Eastern origin, were arrested in Derby in connection with offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.
Officers seized the suspects shortly after 5am in raids on a number of houses in the city and were this afternoon conducting searches at the locations.
A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said: "Eight men were arrested in Derby in connection with offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.
"They were all in their twenties and of Middle Eastern origin and have been taken to a police station in Derbyshire were they are currently being questioned."
Police in Derby were assisted in the operation by officers from the Metropolitan Police.
