The Babyshambles frontman is to be questioned by police investigating pictures published in a newspaper showing the singer allegedly injecting a drug into a girl fan's arm. He was arrested on a street in east London at 8am yesterday and taken to Stoke Newington police station.

Police began their investigation after The Sun published a picture of Doherty holding a syringe as the girl lies apparently unconscious on a floor. The Sun said the photograph was taken at Doherty's home in east London within the past five weeks.

Another picture shows Doherty jabbing a needle into his own forearm. The paper also published a picture of supermodel Kate Moss, 32, who it claimed has been secretly seeing Doherty despite their apparent split.

Doherty's arrest comes after a series of run-ins with the law. The most recent was just over a week ago when he was bailed after being arrested on suspicion of drug offences.
