Dewani in hospital after 'drug reaction'

Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani was admitted to hospital after reacting to medication, his family has said, contradicting rumours he had attempted suicide.

Mr Dewani, wanted in South Africa for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill his wife, Anni, 28, was taken to hospital in Bristol after having a reaction to his sleeping tablets, a spokesman said.

New evidence has emerged, reportedly indicating that Mrs Dewani was sexually assaulted before her murder – casting doubt on the theory that she was killed on his orders. She was shot after the couple's taxi was hijacked on 13 November.

Mr Dewani is due to appear before magistrates on 23 March with an extradition hearing set for May.
