A convicted killer has arrived back in Britain after he was deported from Canada.
Philip Wood, 44, who was born in Ayrshire and whose family emigrated in 1965, arrived at London's Heathrow airport.
The deportation follows his release on parole after serving 14 years of a life sentence for murder in Canada. He was convicted with his brothers of murdering a young woman who was due to testify against one of them.
In Canada, anyone guilty of an offence with a sentence of 10 years or more can be sent back to their country of origin.
Wood is not subject to any parole conditions in Britain. A Home Office spokesman said: "The Government recognises the lack of supervision of returning offenders as a problem and is considering how best to deal with it."
