The death of a woman whose body was found in the street early today is being treated as unexplained, police have said.

The woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was found dead in the Hazelslade area of Cannock, Staffordshire, at around 4.10am.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives are examining the circumstances around the death, which is being treated as unexplained at this stage.

"A post-mortem examination will take place over the coming days to establish the cause of death."

The site of the discovery has been cordoned off to allow examination of the scene, the spokesman added.
