A court hearing involving a teenager charged over a crash in which a 10-year-old boy was killed has been postponed.

John Smith, 18, from Carlton, near Goole, East Yorkshire, had been due to appear before magistrates in Selby, North Yorkshire, following the death of Sean Hamilton in York.

But the hearing has been rescheduled to take place on June 10 at York Magistrates' Court, court officials said.

Sean was hit by a van as he crossed Holgate Road in October last year.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to York District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Smith has been summoned to appear before magistrates for failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

Four other men who were arrested in connection with the investigation were released without charge.
