Baseball bat-wielding men brawl in broad daylight on London street

A street brawl between armed men has been captured on video in south London.

Two men can be seen sparring with what appear to be metal baseball bats as passers-by duck for cover during the fight near West Croydon station.

Glass breaking and the clang of metal on metal can be heard amid the chaos, while a number of other people in the footage appear also to be carrying weapons.

“At first I honestly thought it was a film shoot. It was like something you tend to see in a film”, said a witness.

“It’s the worst violence I’ve ever seen. Someone could have died if they’d have been hit in the head with one of those bats.

“Loads of people crowded around them. People came out of side streets to see what was going on.”

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to London Road, Croydon, shortly after 7pm on Tuesday, 3 September to reports of 20 men fighting with weapons.

“Officers attended. The group had left the scene. One knife was recovered. There were no reported injuries. Enquiries continue.”

Details were not immediately available on whether anyone had been arrested.
