A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died when a car was driven into a pub in Essex.

Police were called to the Spinnaker Inn in Hythe Quay, Colchester, to reports of a car hitting the pub shortly after 12.30am on Sunday.

The victim is believed to be a man in his 40s.

Three other people were taken to hospital, one with life-changing injuries, Essex Police said.

The arrested man has also been detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, death by dangerous driving and assault.

“We are on scene of a serious collision at The Spinnaker Public House, Hythe Quay, Colchester,” Essex Police said.

“The road is closed and is likely to be shut into the morning, drivers are being advised to avoid the area.”
