A man was killed and another injured in a shooting outside a London nightclub at about 3am yesterday. The Turnmills club in Clerkenwell, central London, was sealed off.

Pritan Patel, aged 25, who was in the club at the time, said a fight had broken out. "I could see broken chairs and broken tables afterwards," he said. "The bouncers just told everyone to get out."

Officers from Operation Trident, which was set up to investigate gun crime in the black community, were leading the investigation, a spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said.

The injured man was being treated in hospital.

In a separate incident, a man aged 23 was shot dead as he approached a car outside the Dreamers Bar in Huddersfield at 4am yesterday, police said.
