Police are appealing for information after a primary school chicken was “kicked to death” in an “unpleasant and despicable” attack.

The chicken was killed at La Mare De Carteret Primary School in Guernsey when its coop was vandalised over the weekend.

Another of the school’s six chickens was injured in the attack,” Guernsey Police said.

School head teacher Kim Hutchinson called it a “sad day for the whole school community”, adding that the children were “very upset” after hearing the news of the animal’s death.

“The chickens were incubated in school two years ago and it has been a great source of comfort to many children to see their chicks grow from the first day they were hatched,” she said.

”The children look after them every day and enjoy collecting the eggs.“

Detectives called the incident “senseless, heartless, stupid and extremely troubling.”

A spokesperson said: “We have a number of leads, and we say to whoever did it: come forward and admit it now.”
