Cameras in courts could put victims at risk, MPs told

Plans to allow cameras into courts could put vulnerable victims at risk and deter witnesses, a parliamentary committee has said.

In May, the Government announced it would lift a century-old ban on cameras in courts but yesterday the Joint Committee on Human Rights expressed concerns.

Dr Hywel Francis, the chairman, said: "It could too easily be extended to include filming of witnesses, parties, crime victims, jurors and defendants … It's potentially a slippery slope."
