A man has been arrested after scaling the gates at Buckingham Palace.

The 22 year old managed to climb over the front gates at about 2am on Wednesday.

The Queen was known to be at the palace earlier that day carrying out official royal duties.

Police say the man did not have any weapons on him and the incident is not being treated as terrorist-related.

He was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Royalty and Specialist Protection Command and remains in custody.

A police spokesman said: “Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of trespass, contrary to section 128 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.

“The man was not found in possession of any offensive weapons and the incident is not being treated as terrorist-related.

“He remains in custody at a central London police station.”
