A 20-year-old woman has claimed she was raped by a waiter while on holiday in Turkey who allegedly tried to apologise to her on Facebook.

The woman alleges that the man attacked and raped her on a beach in Alanya, Turkey, last month.

She says she had befriended the man while on holiday with a friend. She claims he began touching her inappropriately one night when he was drunk in a club.

She alleges that once her friend had entered their hotel the man grabbed her from behind, putting his hand over her mouth, and dragged her on to the beach where he raped her.

“I couldn’t breathe and was trying to push him off me but he dragged me along the sand before holding me down and raping me.

“I was trying to scream but he just kept telling me to shut up.”

She says she eventually escaped from the man, who then allegedly began messaging her on Facebook. He allegedly wrote: “I’m really sorry. I don’t know why I did that,” before begging for forgiveness, she claims.

But when contacted by a UK newspaper, he denied the attack. He later contacted the woman to ask why she was “complaining” about him and claiming he had kissed her and not raped her.

On her return to the UK, the woman reported the crime to police who she said have taken her statement and taken pictures of her bruises.

She said she wants the man “off the streets to make sure he can’t target any other women like me”.

Police said: “On Thursday, 8 October, we received a report of the serious sexual assault of a 20-year-old woman that took place in Turkey on Friday, 25 September.

“We are conducting initial inquiries and all the information gathered will be provided to the Turkish authorities for them to progress the investigation.”
