A British kickboxer has been sentenced to 25 years in jail by a Thai court for the murder of a former US Marine.

Lee Aldhouse, from Birmingham, was found guilty of stabbing to death Dashawn Longfellow on the resort island of Phuket. The court spared Aldhouse a life sentence because he pleaded guilty.

Police said that Mr Longfellow, 23, was attacked in his apartment on 14 August 2010, following an earlier fight in a bar, during which he is reported to have got the better of Aldhouse.

Aldhouse was a semi-professional kickboxer who fought under the nickname “Pitbull”. He had been living on-and-off in Phuket, where Mr Longfellow was also studying the sport.

Aldhouse was extradited to Thailand in December 2012 after having an appeal turned down by the High Court. It was the first case of extradition of a criminal suspect from Britain to Thailand. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport after fleeing Thailand.
