A 17-year-old boy has been remanded in custody in connection with an incident in which a four-year-old girl was hit in the face with a brick.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with an attempt to wound after Jersey-Lou Perry was injured in her father's van last week.

Police said a brick was thrown through the window of Kyle Perry's van in Rutland Street, Grimsby, north east Lincolnshire, a week ago.

Mr Perry said the incident happened after he stopped to remonstrate with a group of youths after a ball hit his vehicle.

Police said Jersey-Lou suffered "horrendous injuries".

Court officials confirmed that the youth appeared before Grimsby Magistrates today and was remanded in custody to appear at the town's Youth Court next Wednesday.

Earlier, Jersey-Lou's mother, Laura Mussell, told The Sun how her daughter was more concerned about her half-sister India, two, who was next to her in the van.

Ms Mussell said Jersey-Lou did not talk for hours after the incident.

She said: "Then she suddenly woke up at 3am, looked at me and asked if her sister's face was all right."

Despite India escaping with scratches, Jersey-Lou suffered a broken nose, two lost teeth and numerous other injuries to her face.
