Boy facing plastic surgery after Rottweiler attack

A nine-year-old boy may need plastic surgery after he was attacked by three Rottweilers who followed him into his own home.

The boy's father had to prise open the jaws of one of the dogs during the attack in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

He then tackled all three canines and dragged them out of the house, in Slindon Close, Chesterton.

The boy, named as Jordan Gillon by The Sun, is in hospital where he may need plastic surgery for more than a dozen bite wounds to his face, back, arms and legs.

The dogs belonged to the family of a friend, who Jordan was visiting and who lives in the same cul-de-sac.

The pets were meant to be secured in the kitchen but they managed to escape before attacking him and chasing him home.

Since the attack, at 5pm on Monday, one of the dogs, a male, has been destroyed.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said the schoolboy was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

"We've yet to speak to both boys, to establish exactly what happened.

"When we have, we will be in a better position to assess what, if anything, happens next - including whether or not the two other dogs should be destroyed.

"We will be submitting a report to the Crown Prosecution Service for advice on whether prosecution is appropriate," he said.

This the latest in a string of horrific dog attacks in recent months.

On New Year's Day five-year-old Ellie Lawrenson was mauled to death by her uncle's pit bull terrier in St Helens, Merseyside.

Last year five-year-old Cadey-Lee Deacon died after being mauled by two Rottweiler guard dogs in the living quarters of a pub in Leicester.

Just days later Harvey Lawrence, two, was attacked at the home of his grandmother in Middleton-on-Sea, near Bognor Regis, suffering cuts and wounds across his face and body.

In late November, a three-year-old Warwickshire girl was airlifted to hospital after another dog attack.
