Salford shooting: Boy, 7, hit outside home asks Father Christmas to 'help police catch the men who hurt me'
Christian Hickey was shot once in the leg and his mother was shot twice in the attack in Manchester in October
A seven-year-old boy has asked Father Christmas to help police catch “the men who hurt him” after he and his mother were shot on their doorstep in Manchester.
Christian Hickey and his mother Jayne, 30, were attacked after opening the door of their Salford home on 12 October to two men. Christian was shot in the leg and Mrs Hickey was shot twice.
The boy, who went through surgery to repair the damage, asked Santa for a remote-controlled helicopter and a set of walkie talkies – but top of his list was an appeal to “help the police catch the people who hurt me.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, of Greater Manchester Police Serious Crime Division, described the Christian’s list as “heart wrenching”.
"What happened to Christian will stay with him for the rest of his life but what we can do is try to make this up to him by finding those responsible and bringing them to justice,” he said in a statement.
Earlier this week, police released a photograph of Christian recovering in hospital as they appealed for any information around the attack.
Mrs Hickey, speaking from hospital, describing the terrifying moment she saw “blood pouring” from her son as she “screamed” for her husband to help before she collapsed.
"Because of the shooting I can't care for my son," she told Sky News.
