A 13-year-old boy has been shot in the shoulder after leaving a party in Moss Side, Manchester. He was in a stable condition in hospital last night, police said.

The teenager, from the Longsight area of the city, was shot at about 11.15pm on Saturday.

A resident living close to the scene, who did not want to be named, said: "We held a party here last night, and he was at the party.

"I gave him some food and then I don't know what happened. None of us know what happened because we were all inside."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Extra officers will be in the area throughout this afternoon and overnight to support the investigation and provide reassurance to the community."

Three youngsters have been shot dead in Manchester recently. In April, Kasha Peniston, then 16, shot his sister, Kamilah, 12, in the head with a handgun his mother kept in their home in Gorton. Kally Gilligan, 15, was shot dead by her jilted ex-boyfriend, Josh Thompson, 18, in Salford in June last year, and, last September, Jessie James, 15, was shot dead as he cycled through a park in Moss Side.

On 25 September, two youngsters, aged 12 and 15, were shot in Fallowfield and on 8 October, two gangs of youths fought a gun battle in Moss Side.
