A baby has been hurt after shots were fired in Birmingham‘s Alum Rock area, police said.
The infant was injured by broken glass after a bullet smashed a window of a home in Sandbourne Road in the early hours of Thursday morning, West Midlands Police (WMP) said.
The first shooting took place at 2.55am and a second happened in Fernbank Road about five minutes later.
A dark-coloured vehicle was seen driving away from the second home, police said. No-one was injured.
Detective Inspector Richard Marsh, of WMP, said: “The investigation is at an early stage, but given how close the incidents were in time and location, we are linking them.
“A young child has been injured as a result of the reckless discharge of a firearm, and we’re working hard to bring whoever was responsible to justice.
“Gun crime is a priority for West Midlands Police and we continue to take dangerous weapons off the streets and put those involved in firearms behind bars.
“We rely on the public’s support and I’d urge anyone who knows who was responsible for the shootings to consider the fact that a baby has been injured today.”
