Bin bag victim identified by breast implants

One of two women whose dismembered body parts were found in bin bags in north London has been identified as a 30-year-old prostitute after police traced serial numbers found on implants in her breasts and bottom.

The woman, from Nottinghamshire, is believed to have been cut up after accepting a job from her killer.

Police have struggled to identify the woman and another victim, thought to be in her late teens or early twenties, because their heads were missing.

The main murder suspect, Anthony Hardy, 51, was arrested on Thursdayin central London. Police were questioning him last night.

The murder inquiry began on Monday after body parts were found in bin bags in Camden. The following day the torso of the Nottinghamshire woman was found in Mr Hardy's council flat in Royal College Street, Camden. Forensic specialists continued to examine the flat yesterday, while divers searched the nearby canal.

Thevictim was identified after a post-mortem examination on Wednesday. Police obtaineddetails from the medical authorities using serial numbers printed on the silicon bags. They believe the second victim was also a prostitute. Both are thought to have been killed over the Christmas period.

Detectives had feared for the safety of a third woman, Kelly Anne Nicol, 24, who was seen with a man matching Mr Hardy's description in Camden on Boxing Day. But yesterday her family in Scotland said she had contacted them and was alive and well.

Mr Hardy was questioned in January last year after a prostitute died of a heart attack in his flat, but he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Detectives are expected to re-examine other unsolved murders including that of Paula Fields, 31, a prostitute, whose headless body was found in the Regent's Canal in Camden in February 2001.
