Police officers charged over photographs taken after Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman stabbed to death
Pair accused of misconduct in public office after deaths of sisters in London park
Two Metropolitan Police officers have been charged over photographs taken at the scene of a double killing that were allegedly shared on WhatsApp.
Pc Deniz Jaffer and Pc Jamie Lewis are accused of misconduct in public office over the pictures that were allegedly shot after sisters Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, were killed in a park in Wembley, northwest London, last June.
The alleged offences took place at the scene of the stabbings at Fryent Country Park in the early hours of 6 June, after the women had been celebrating Ms Henry’s birthday.
The attack, when the women were stabbed in the early hours of the morning, was described by prosecutors as “unprovoked and random”.
Danyal Hussein was charged with their murders and possession of an offensive weapon.
The sisters’ mother, Mina Smallman, the Church of England’s first female archdeacon of black and minority ethnic descent, has previously said she believes their race meant their deaths were not taken seriously, and their murders did not receive the same reaction as the killing of Sarah Everard.
Jaffer and Lewis will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 27 May for their first hearing, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
The Met Police said the pair had been suspended.
