Attempt to hijack taxi thwarted

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted hijacking of a taxi in west Belfast last night.

Three men got into the vehicle shortly after midnight on the Springfield Road and informed the driver they were stealing the car.

But the taxi driver stopped the car on the Grosvenor Road and resisted, and the men made off empty handed.

This follows a spate of car hijacking incidents across Belfast over the last three weeks, in which mainly women have been targeted.
